Salary: £50,000-£60,000 pa DOE

About the Role

We are looking for a Financial Controller to join our Finance team, reporting to our Finance Director. This role will act as the link between the officebased finance team and the Finance Director, providing daytoday support, guidance and advice across AP, AR, VAT, Banking, Payroll, monthly closing, and both internal and statutory reporting.

The Finance Manager will report directly into this role, and the Finance Assistants will continue to report to the Finance Manager

We anticipate this role being part time (3–4 days per week); however, we are open to considering fulltime hours for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

The Financial Controller will be responsible for the day to day oversight and running of the Finance Office team, with direct line management responsibility for the Finance Manager and overall functional oversight of the Finance Assistants

  • Review and authorisation of the bi-monthly supplier BACS payment runs. Review and authorisation of International and other monthly supplier payments
  • SAGE Bank reconciliations
  • Cashflow analysis and forecasting to manage and maximise cash treasury deposits
  • VAT review, reconciliation and quarterly returns
  • Payroll review and exception reporting to ensure accuracy and completeness from third party payroll provider
  • Accounting system maintenance and management, including journal postings and looking for efficiencies
  • Monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations preparation, investigation and resolution of corrections where necessary ahead of review
  • Assisting the AP & AR function at month-end as volume increases
  • To be integral in the accounting system changeover. Be part of the project management and implementation. Over-sight and data cleansing of the current AP/AR data sets and GL set-up
  • Statutory reporting – Year-end Audit assistance.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Recognised Professional Accountancy Qualification: ACCA/CIMA
  • Systems: SAGE50 / NetSuite desirable
  • Advanced Excel (PIVOT / SUMIFS / XLOOKUP), MSOffice

Proven people management experience, including:

  • Leading and developing team
  • Providing coaching and oversight
  • Setting clear expectations and maintaining performance standards
  • Supporting continuous improvement within a team environment

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Advanced analytical skills
  • Team leadership and ability to develop finance staff
  • Process improvement – streamlining of month-end close and automation of processes
