Securing your client’s network against their staff

OK, let’s be honest about this, this article is all about how Heimdal Security has the power to not just help your clients secure their networks but also to stop their staff from increasing the risks because said staff think that they know best. What if an IT Manager could set policies to uninstall unwanted software from endpoints, ensure the installation of preferred/required software and then keep it all patched and up to date? That would be good…

What if that same piece of software also scanned the data traffic on-the-fly so that if an endpoint suddenly decided to start talking to a dodgy server, the offending endpoint would immediately be stopped from all of its surreptitious communication? While we’re at it, wouldn’t it be nice if malicious websites were blocked to stop even the stupidest members of staff from infecting your clients’ networks?

The biggest risk though has to be the self-appointed computer expert who doesn’t need any help or advice from the IT Manager because he knows best. [Yep, I’m thinking of me here.] Surely the ideal scenario would be to have the security software running quietly in the background with its settings safely locked away from any “expert tweaking”? That way the “expert” cannot “make the things work better” by turning off vital elements of security…

This IT Manager’s utopia may be a lot easier to reach than you think: As I mentioned at the start, the solution is Heimdal. If your clients have a preferred antivirus already running, then that shouldn’t be a problem as Heimdal will happily run alongside pretty much anything. If however an antivirus is needed too then there is an optional antivirus module in Heimdal Security which is every bit as good as the rest of the suite.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could provide your clients with a month’s free trial of the full-blown Heimdal Security suite across their networks? To really try it out in the real-world scenarios of their workplaces and then get reports about exactly what was going on and which members of staff were the biggest risks. Well, guess what…
